My Mixer small
This is my revamped version of a Ward Beck 1202 desk for which I was missing a few modules. So I decided to build a small mixer that would be handy for tracking, mixing, and sub-mixing. The 480C modules sound fantastic and the figured cherry makes a statement I think. I’m pretty happy.
This is a lovely set of eight Auditronics 110s with output cards and internal, shielded power supply. The cabinet is dovetailed curly oak with a black walnut front edge.

Here is a 500 series compatible eight-pack. This comes with a beefy 2U rack mount power supply. The piece of cherry in this is a really fantastic chunk of lumber. With the buffed lacquer finish it looks like it’s breathing. More picures below.

This is a beautiful pair of Quad Eight MM-71 pre-amps. The biggest problem with building these into a cabinet is that now I have to have some for myself. I think I'll never be rich, but I'll always have really great recording equipment.

For this cabinet I used locally grown black walnut and trimmed it with some straight grained mahogany. The mahogany is very grainy and I chose to not prepare the wood by filling the grain. As is, it reminds me of skin pores. Wood is such wonderful stuff.

This is an extended WBS 460 series channel strip. From left to right there is a Penny & Giles fader, a WBS 461M mic pre, a 462 equalizer, a 466 compressor, and a 467 noise gate/meter. I want to keep this one, but will probably let it go to a good home. The wood is an unusually figured maple with black walnut highlights. Since I took these pictures I have sanded it down and completely refinished the whole thing due to a lacquer anomaly. It looks fantastic now. I'll try to get some flattering shots and post them soon.

Here's a picnic basket on steroids. My friend Jack had a '70s Quantum console that wasn't exactly working. He sent it to me and said, "Send me four working channel strips and do what you will with the rest." I may restore the rest of it and install some WBS and Auditronics strips to replace the missing channels.

This is one of the recent dovetail series boxes I call the "picnic basket" model. The wood is an unusually figured and locally harvested black walnut with maple trim. It's loaded with two Ward Beck 460 modules.

Here's a figured maple eight pack. This one got scratched up on the top and I got disgusted, unloaded it and it is currently a storage box. All my 19" metal rack handles are stored inside. Below are pictures of this one in happier days...

Here is the first box for which I used my own steel (for internal frame): It's cherry and maple with oak highlights. lt's pictured with two Ward Beck 466 compressors and two Ward Beck EQs. This was one of those projects where everything that could go wrong went wrong. I was going to keep this box rather than selling it as it simply isn't up to my standards, but someone saw it and could make good use of it so...
