*All of the racked pre-amps I build are assembled by hand one at a time. I use them in my personal studio and they live in my rack until someone buys them. I treat them gently, but occasionally a little scratch or other minor scuff will happen. If something sneaks by me, let me know and I’ll be happy to fix it for you.
There are additional pictures of many of the sale items in the wood, and metalwork galleries, but most are in the “Sold” area on this page. Have fun!
It is always a better idea to contact me before pulling the trigger, particularly if you want something shipped internationally. I will send you an invoice for total price plus actual shipping charges. The invoice will be from my Quickbooks accounting software. At the moment I am accepting Paypal payments.
Sorry about the price increases, but my costs have gone up dramatically.
Shipping : Send me your shipping address and I’ll add USPS Priority shipping to your invoice. If somehow shipping is less than that, I’ll reimburse the difference when you have received the unit and are happy with it. 8% Sales tax for New York residents. Recapped, EQ modded, and ready to rock. $999 plus shipping .
This one I acquired just because it looked sad and abused and I felt that some TLC would turn it into a nice, useful piece of equipment. I cleaned it up, replaced bad pots, etc. and now it’s a very nice acoustic instrument preamp and parametric EQ. $500 plus shipping .
The following are sold. They remain to provide a convenient library of current designs for some of these lovely pre-amps.

A delicious pair of Telefunken V672 modules racked and ready to make the world a better sounding place. SOLD
This one is an odd duck. It’s a vintage General Electric module that I got in a trade and went ahead and racked it for my own use. It’s been living in my studio rack for ten years or so and has a few nicks and bruises. It doesn’t have a tremendous amount of gain, but works well with dynamic mics. It sounds very much like the RCA BA-71/72 series pres, but I have several RCAs. SOLD
Finally I came across some BA-71s in nice condition. I recapped these and they sound marvelous. S OLD!
Here’s an 8-pack in which all eight modules (and an extra one thrown in) have consecutive serial numbers. This one is truly awesome. SOLD
Here’s a newly reconditioned (new caps and op-amps, cleaned all switches, etc.) pair of Ward Beck 480C modules. They sound huge. SOLD .
The WBS 460 is a truly elegant sounding preamp. This pair has been restored, re-capped, and re-chipped as needed. Perfect, and a serious bargain at SOLD
The Ward Beck 460 is a world class preamp. I have a pair that will never leave my studio. These were originally 460B series. I have removed all the extraneous switches and pots and cut new horizontal front panels. They look great and sound better. I got a great deal on a bunch of them so can pass along my good fortune. S OLD, But more on the way! I have several modules to rack so check back in a week or two.
I’m actually loath to sell this one. Yesterday I had a KM84 plugged into it recording acoustic guitar. If it sells this week I’ll let it go. If it’s still here May 6, I’m keeping it. No longer available .
Here’s a no frills pair of Langevin AM-16 modules racked in a 1U case. This one has the same gorgeous Langevin sound as the fancier models at an affordable price. For a limited time SOLD Call 518-231-3044 to order your own.
I came into a few Langevin AM16 modules at a decent price so can pass the savings along. I’ll have three or four pairs at this price. BTW–the rotary switch is a variable pad; 0, 15dB, and 30dB, but I think the next one will be 10dB and 20dB. SOLD
Wow! A spectacular 8-pack of vintage Langevin AM-16 modules. What can I say? SOLD
Sweet 1U pair of AM-16s for those of you with limited space in your racks. These I configured for a variety of possible vocal sounds so the options for padding your high gain VX mics are as follows: Channel one pads are 10dB and 20dB while channel two has 15dB and 30dB. Cool. SOLD
Oh my….another Altec 9470 rack. These are the cleanest 9470s I’ve come across. And they sound wonderful. SOLD
This is a beast. Four completely reconditioned and EQ modded PM1000 modules. I sold these once and they were chewed up by the postal system. I don’t want to try sending them again. They’re very heavy, which always spells trouble from USPS. SOLD
From my personal stash, here is the best sounding preamp ever to cross my bench. The only reason it’s for sale is that I just found another pair and only need two. SOLD
Black and Blue BA-72A that simply sings. SOLD Wow…absolutely stunning AM-16 six-pack. I don’t have the words… SOLD
Black and blue series Vintage Ward Beck M470 modules. Recapped, re-chipped and huge sounding. I have several in my own studio. They’re my ‘go-to’ preamps for drum kits. One pair on sale now. SOLD
Here’s another lean, mean RCA solo designed to be somewhat affordable. I want everybody to have at least one BA-71. SOLD
Here’s my last V672/2 pair of Telefunkens. Hopefully I’ll find more before too long. These sound great. SOLD
Whoops…I somehow erased the copy for these 470s. Sorry about that.
I did it again. Oh well, these are sold.
A nice, fresh four-pack rack of Langevin AM-16 modules. This one has an internal power supply so it’s an all-in-one unit. They sound just ridiculously good. SOLD
Vintage Langevin AM16 pair. The green coat is a tip of the hat to the vintage Altec stuff. If you look closely notice that channel one has a 10 and 15dB pad while channel two has a 20 and 30dB pad. These things sound fantastic. SOLD
Wow! Vintage pair of API 312 modules in a signature series Gruning Audioworks case. Yummy. SOLD
Langevin AM-16s full frontal exposure. They all sound so delicious. This pair has consecutive serial numbers. SOLD
A freshly racked quartet of vintage Langevin AM16 modules with external power supply. I painted the front panel blue, but then got a wild hair and did a mist of forest green. So of course this will usher in the ‘Blue in Green’ series, obviously referencing the Bill Evans/Miles Davis tune, which has always been one of my faves. Anyway, they sound wonderful. SOLD
Closely matching numbers on these AM-16 modules. These are very, very nice. $1699 plus shipping. SOLD
I had Marconi-style knobs on this one and over time decided I just didn’t like them on this particular box. I’m happier now with Bakelite and Chickenhead knobs. Still sounds great! SOLD
And speaking of great sounding preamps…These 672s have been re-capped and are ready to make the world a better sounding place. SOLD
Early RCA BA-71A, six transistor pair, completely re-capped and ready to make the world a better sounding place. SOLD
Delicious pair of Telefunken 672 on the menu today. These sound so nice that I always keep a pair in my personal stash. These have been re-capped and brought up to spec. SOLD
Those of you familiar with my work know that the RCA BA-71/72 series are some of my all-time favorites. Here’s a pair with the signature series rack and all the available options. They sound ridiculously good. SOLD
The 9470 is a great piece. These sound similar to the Langevin AM16, but with a more present mid-range. SOLD
I really like the Series II Neotek. Here’s a fresh rack that looks as good as it sounds. . SOLD
A wonderful sounding Telefunken 672/2. If you look closely you’ll notice this one has the added optional “Death Ray.” Really all it does is light up a blindingly bright red LED, but it’ll make you feel better when you’re recording that vocalist who can’t quite reach the notes. SOLD
Wow! If you think you need to spend $5K to get something that sounds weepingly good, think again. Here’s a vintage WBS 441 preamp paired with a similar vintage WBS 402 EQ. Absolutely yummy. SOLD
The prototype PM2000 rack from the Audioworks. Sounds like its little brother, but, well, bigger. I have a stupid amount of time it this, which I’ll never get back. SOLD
This is the new model, which differs from previous versions in that it has an all aluminum case, ground lift switch, and star ground for all chassis sections. SOLD
These get my “Best-Bang-for-the Buck” award for the season. Originally from a Soundtracs CP6800 large format console, they have a very versatile EQ and sound huge. I added the JLM Audio balancing circuits, which add up to 18dB and these absolutely sing. SOLD
Obviously I’m very fond of the RCA BA-71/72 series preamps. Here’s a tricked out pair of Cs in the back and blue style. SOLD
Another gorgeous sounding RCA BA-71B pair. This one has all the options and would usually sell for $1999. SOLD
A sweet pair of Ward Beck 480C preamps. Ths is a used item and has a few nicks and scratches, but I just cleaned all the switches and updated with a small modification. Huge sound and really gorgeous EQ. SOLD
Here’s the second RCA “Solo” rack, numbered 002. I called them the twins, although this one has a recapped BA-71B module inside. It sounds ridiculously good. SOLD
Here’s a racked pair of RCA modules that I just finished. This one was a kick to build with an active DI on channel one and variable source impedance on channel two. The red paint was just for fun. SOLD
Here’s a really sweet pair of Altec 9470 modules. These sound somewhat similar to the Langevin AM-16, but with more mid presence. SOLD
This one and the next are the first units to come out of the new shop at 270 Main St. in Middleburgh, NY. I figured it was time to build some affordable, yet tricked out RCA racks that people could more readily afford than the pairs. This one has a six-transistor BA-71A module in it and sounds fantastic. SOLD
This is a fresh Gruning Audioworks racking of a classic pair of Sphere 1200B modules. Stunning! SOLD
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; you can buy different, but you can’t buy better. The 124 cards are fantastic. SOLD
Another restored vintage pair of Telefunken V672 modules. These sound ridiculously good. Note the DI on channel one and the really cool vintage knobs. I’d be happy to keep this one. SOLD
Wow!! This BA-71A is one of the early six-transistor models. They’re rare as hen’s teeth. This is only the second pair to cross my bench in a decade. The sound is more low and low-mid than their four-transistor progeny. This one is re-capped and has all the bells and whistles. SOLD
Here’s a fully tricked out pair of BA-71B modules with all the options including: phantom, polarity, +6dB boost, 20dB pad, DI on channel one, variable source impedance, and vintage RCA meatball. Perfect! SOLD
I’ve had this beast in my rack for several years and it’s time to pass it along. Has plenty of nicks and bruises, but sounds like a million bucks. SOLD
Here’s a shiny freshly racked pair of RCA BA-72A modules. The last pair of these I racked sold before I had a chance to list them. I can’t recommend them highly enough. SOLD
Telefunken 672 pair. Lovely sound…engraving slightly wonky so marked down. SOLD
Here’s another V672 in one of my new line of cases. The 672 is still one of my all-time favorites. SOLD
A lovely pair of AM-16s for those who are running out of rack space. These are my personal stock but I’m way behind with other people’s projects and the shelves are bare, so…..SOLD
The Altec 9470A is a John Hall design similar to the Langevin AM-16 but with a more open, mid-present sound. SOLD
Another RCA project; this one a BA-72A, a slightly younger brother to the BA-71 series, but with the same gorgeous sound. S OLD
This one is $10 more than the usual due to the Marconi-type knobs. SOLD
These are vintage Ward Beck 441M modules. I racked them a couple of years ago and decided to keep them in my studio because they sound so great and are so difficult to find. I just got a few more on a trade so will move these to make room. You can buy different, but you can’t buy any better. SOLD
Beautiful and rare as hen’s teeth, the Sphere 1200 is a stellar pre-amp. They don’t get much nicer than these. SOLD
These UA 110 pre-amps appear to be the same units that graced the 4110. In any case, they are a feature-packed pair that sound excellent. SOLD
Here’s a gorgeous pair of vintage Telefunken 672 modules. The design is the third revision since I started racking these. They sound really great. SOLD
Here’s another lovely RCA BA-71 pair with all the options. I have lots of pictures of this one so contact me if you would like to see the details. SOLD
A yummy pair of recapped, vintage Ward Beck Systems 402B Equalizers. Add some magic to your rack. SOLD
Simple, elegant, and classic: these 672 pre-amps have been recapped, have the desirable green transformers, and even sport vintage Daka-Ware knobs (that obviously make them sound even better…). These are my personal 672s, but my studio is more a test lab than a working recording room, so most everything is for sale. SOLD
These 312 modules are all original including Huntington 2520s and they sound fantastic. My source for API-style knobs dried up. If I can find more I’ll probably change these out. I really want to keep these, but will offer them at SOLD
Every now and then I just have to build one of the completely tricked out RCA BA-71s. Those of you who know me know that the BA-71/72 series pre-amps are near and dear to my heart and ears. SOLD
A couple of years ago I started racking more high dollar stuff than I had previously. Consequently many of my prices went up. Lately I’ve been thinking it’s time to offer some high dollar pres without all the frills that add up to high prices. These RCA BA-71B preamps are marvelous sounding units: no meters; no variable source impedance; just solid, recapped, modules ready to make the world a better sounding place. This is the lowest price I’ve ever offered on pairs of BA-71s. Buy them now before I change my mind. SOLD
A lovely set of RCA BA-71C modules completely recapped and ready to make the world a better sounding place. This one has the 6dB boost switch and a DI on channel one. SOLD
The Neotek Series II is such a great studio workhorse. They sound wonderful on electric guitar cabinets, but work very well on a variety of sources. These have all the extraneous switches and pots removed so only the useful stuff remains. I got a good deal on the modules so will pass it on. SOLD
In the newest version of the Series II, I engraved the various markings to match the original. As always, the Neotek sound is pretty spectacular. Obviously I removed all the unnecessary switches and pots that aren’t relevant to their status as stand-alone pres. SOLD
Altec 9470A in green as a tip of the hat to the original color combo. Great sounding preamps designed by the same fellow who brought us the Langevin AM-16. SOLD
Well okay…so if you just can’t get enough of the AM-16s, here’s a pretty special four pack. Wired 150 ohm in and 600 ohm out, these have dual pads (15 and 30dB), polarity and +48V switches, output pots, meters with two stereo buffers, and an external power supply with room for an additional four pack. Phenomenal sounding for various sources, but a dream setup for drums. SOLD
Man, I’m going to miss this 500 series case. Guess I’ll have to build another. SOLD
Sweet BA-71 pair. They sound great! SOLD
This WBS 461 channel strip includes a Penny & Giles fader, the 461 preamplifier, a 466 compressor/limiter, 462 EQ, and a 467 meter/noise gate. SOLD
Another Ward Beck Systems 124/402 combo. Variable source impedance, meters with stereo buffer amp, Daka-ware knobs, flexible and discrete I/O connections, and completely re-capped. Stunning! These are some of my favorites. SOLD
I love these AM-16s for drums, but sometimes you need that extra pad, so besides the usual compliment of toys I added a two stage 15 and 30 dB pad to take the worry out of close mic-ing. SOLD
Like its predecessor, the venerable UA 1108, the Urei 1109 continues the tradition of lush, gorgeous sounding pre-amps. These have input gain pots as well as trim (output), DI inputs on both channels, and have been completely re-capped. I got an excellent deal on the modules so will pass along my good fortune. SOLD
It’s been a long while since I racked a pair of Auditronics pres. The observant recordist will catch that the heading “Auditronics 110B” is a mistake. They are actually 110A modules. Oh well, they still sound like a million bucks. SOLD
Beautiful, completely recapped pair of RCA BA-71A modules with all the options: variable source impedance, DI, as well as polarity, 20dB pad, boost, and +48V switches. They don’t get much nicer than these. SOLD
Another lovely set of vintage API 312 modules. SOLD
SOLD My bud Tom P. from Michigan sent me some really clean M470 modules at a very good price so I can afford to sell them at a very good price. I recapped these (electrolytics) and replaced all the old dried up op-amps with nice fresh ones, cleaned all the switches, and added a +48V mini toggle on the front. The on/off switch is by the IEC on the rear panel. Oh yeah…they sound huge.
